Original Oil Painting – Neptune Fountain, Bologna, Italy
An original oil painting of the iconic Fountain of Neptune (Fontana del Nettuno) in the historic centre of Bologna, Italy.
The painting captures the monumental bronze figure of Neptune rising above the fountain, framed by Bologna’s wonderful historic architecture and the warm terracotta, ochre and red tones that are so characteristic of the city.
I loved the contrast between the dark sculptural figure of Neptune and the sunlit buildings behind it, as well as the layers of architecture surrounding the fountain. It is one of those unmistakably Italian urban scenes where art, architecture and everyday city life all come together.
The Fontana del Nettuno stands in Piazza del Nettuno, beside Piazza Maggiore, and is one of Bologna’s most recognisable landmarks.
Painted in oils on canvas board, this is an original, one-of-a-kind artwork — not a print or reproduction.
