This painting captures a quiet winter moment in Morgex, in Italy’s Aosta Valley, just after a snowfall during our February holiday.

I was walking our black Labrador Ozzy through the village when I passed the charming Hotel Les Montagnards, a historic hostelry in the centre of Morgex. The snowstorm had just passed and the landscape was completely pristine. The village was silent, broken only by the occasional soft sound of snow falling from tree branches.

The wooden chalet façade of the hotel glowed warmly against the fresh snow, while behind it the hazy winter sky revealed part of La Grivola, one of the most beautiful mountains of the Gran Paradiso range.

The painting aims to capture that peaceful Alpine atmosphere — the stillness after snowfall, the warmth of village architecture, and the quiet rhythm of winter life in the mountains.

Painted in oil on canvas board, the brushwork emphasises the texture of fresh snow and the soft winter light.

This is a one-of-a-kind original artwork.
