Bring a little of the mountains into your home with Dente de Gigante Thin #3, my original oil painting of the Dente del Gigante, a distinctive peak visible from downtown Courmayeur, in Italy’s Aosta Valley. This painting captures the view from Punta Helbronner, at the top of Skyway Monte Bianco, where you can admire its dramatic pointed summit and the surrounding high-mountain landscape up close.
In this tall, narrow composition, the summit rises against a deep blue sky, above dramatic rock faces and sweeping ribbons of snow. Cool blues and whites sit alongside warm touches of ochre, brown and pink, capturing the contrasts of light and shadow that make mountain scenery so fascinating to paint.
The vertical format draws your eye upwards through the rocky foreground towards the summit, giving the painting a sense of height and depth. It is a lovely shape for a narrow wall, or for a space where you would like to bring in the feeling of the high mountains.
For anyone who loves Courmayeur and the Alps, this painting offers a little escape: a reminder of snowy peaks, mountain holidays and that wonderful feeling of looking up at a landscape much bigger than ourselves.
