This painting captures the tiny chapel in the hamlet of La Clusaz, at the end of the Tsantamerla path in La Salle, in Italy’s Aosta Valley.
It is a peaceful spot reached after walking through the vineyards of Blanc de Morgex et de La Salle, home to the highest white wine grapes in Europe. The path winds through the vineyards before ending beside this small chapel, a quiet landmark beneath the shade of a large tree.
From this point the view opens toward the valley of Morgex, part of the Valdigne — the Valley of Monte Bianco. In the distance rise the Alpine peaks of Mont Crammont, Tête des Vieux, and Tête des Jeunes. Behind the chapel lies Monte Bianco (Mont Blanc) itself, though it is hidden from view in this particular perspective.
