There are few places as inspiring as waking up at the Almhof, with the Haunold (2,966 m) rising just outside your window.
This mountain belongs to the Drei Zinnen (Three Peaks) region, in the northwesternmost part of Italy, within the province of Südtirol (South Tyrol), near the border with Austria.
This painting captures that peaceful morning view — the first light touching the Dolomitic rock, the silence of the forest below, and the timeless charm of the Alpine rooftops.
I chose to stay there mostly because of that view, and for the lovely way the day begins in this serene corner of the Dolomites.
