This original oil painting captures a luminous moment in Courmayeur when autumn’s golden larches meet the first snowfalls of winter. Painted from life and memory, it reflects my deep connection to the Aosta Valley and the shifting moods of its mountains.
The crisp blue sky, the sharp planes of the snow-dusted peak, and the warm tapestry of amber and green larches together create a striking seasonal contrast. Below the mountain, the small cluster of alpine houses sits quietly against the slope, half-embraced by snow, half-surrounded by lingering autumn colour — a reminder of how brief and beautiful the transition between seasons can be.
Working in oils allowed me to build up texture and depth: thick, expressive strokes for the trees; softer transitions for the snow; and subtle, cool shadows that anchor the scene. The painting balances warmth and cold, movement and stillness — a landscape poised between two worlds.
This is not a study but a complete, original artwork, created with the intention of honouring this fleeting seasonal moment in Courmayeur.
