The Aiguille Noire of Peuterey, part of the Monte Bianco (Mont Blanc), has attracted me since the first time I've seen it, around 10 years ago. If you see it from the road going towards the Mont Blanc Tunnel, it looks like it is stuck to the rest of Monte Bianco, but coming nearer to the edge of Courmayeur, in Entrèves or Val Ferret, you can see that is separated in part of the main part of the mountain. This painting is as I've seen it from the top of Skyway Monte Bianco, one October afternoon. The day started with amazing skies, but by four pm, before we needed to descend from Punta Helbronner into Courmayeur, the skies were moody. The light is behind the mountain, but here are still lots of tones of shadows on the part of the mountain I could see.
I have used pan pastels for the sky, and pastels and charcoal for the mountain itself.
